One-owner, original paint, Series I, 1974 BMW R90S. Sale includes the original title AND original bill of sale!
This wonderful R90S came from a 13 piece collection that I was very fortunate to rescue. This bike, and it's 12 siblings sat dormant in a Texas barn for 34 years. The late owner, who was the 1 original owner of this bike, had impeccable taste. He was an aeronautical engineer, and didn't fool around when it came to maintaining his bikes. This bike was found along side others such as a Triumph X-75 Hurricane, John Player Norton, 100 original mile Bonneville, Triumph Tridents, a Norvil Production Racer, Ducati 750GT, Moto Guzzi V7 sport, MK3 Electric Start Commando, and the list goes on.
No expense was spared in this revival of the motorcycle that invented “Sport-touring”. Starting from the ground up, both tires have been replaced with brand new Metzler Perfet ME 11’s, with less than 1000 miles on them, they still have the little hairs! The brake hydraulics have been fully serviced, and all essential components of been cleaned or replaced, including brand new OEM brake lines and new OEM master cylinder. Make no mistake, the master cylinder was not simply rebuilt, the ENTIRE UNIT was replaced with a new unit source directly from BMW. The exhaust system, and all of the related crush washers have been swapped out for new units. Front suspension got the full treatment with fresh seals and fork oil.
The engine has been rebuilt with fresh OEM rings, cylinder base gaskets, head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket & pushrod boots, to ensure she’s sitting as tight as she was when she rolled off the showroom floor.
A BRAND NEW pair of Dellorto carburetors were fitted (I was able to retain the original carbs top caps, so it’s hard to tell at first glance), along with brand new carburetor insulator bushings.
Brand new air filter, oil filter, genuine german cloth fuel lines, fuel filters, and oil filter have all been replaced, to ensure longevity and keep a healthy running engine for years and years to come.
I went SO above and beyond while restoring this bike, that I preemptively replaced some items that did not need to be replaced, but are commonly worn. With that said, I installed brand new air intake rubbers, headlight trim gasket, steering damper knob, clutch cable, and genuine Magura OEM grips.
Both fuel petcocks have been replaced with brand new genuine Karcoma units. The battery, is the top-of-the-line AGM, spillproof unit, that won’t ever drop acid on your beautiful machine.
The gauges all seem to be functioning and lighting up as they should. I took this motorcycle on a 700 mile road trip through New York, and the bike never gave me so much as a hick up. Riding for hours, or sitting over night ice cold, this bike just wants to fire up and GO! BMWs are famous for their reliability and this R90S is certainly no exception.
